Mortal Shell II — Caged Hystrix Location & Trap Usage (Chamber of Becoming)
Published 2026-09-173 min read
The Caged Hystrix is Mortal Shell II's trap sidearm: thrown pods detonate when enemies approach, grinding them down with sustained area damage. It drops on the Sariel boss line at The Silent Steps — full route and usage inside.
The Caged Hystrix weaponizes a small, suffering creature in a cage: throw it, and the pod detonates when an enemy wanders too close, dealing sustained area damage. It is less a gunshot and more a landmine — the sidearm of players who fight on their own terms.

How to get it — same trip as the Clockwork Scythe
The Caged Hystrix comes from the Sariel boss line at The Silent Steps:
- Fast travel to The Silent Steps Beacon and go south-east to the large stone platform where Sariel, the Endless waits.
- Beat him once. He slips through a wall that opens into the Chamber of Becoming dungeon.
- Chase him through and win the rematch, destroying all four grave markers so he stays down.
- Do not leave yet. Climb the stairs at the back of the final room — the Caged Hystrix sits near the dungeon exit.
What it plays like
- Area denial. A thrown pod turns a doorway, choke point or boss-arena corner into punished ground — enemies who step in eat continuous damage.
- Defense-first design. It shines when you are buying space: drop a pod, retreat, and let anything chasing you walk into the blast.
- Patience over spam. Like all sidearms it runs on Resolve, and its value comes from placement, not volume. One well-placed pod per exchange is plenty.
