Mortal Shell II — Veteran's Battle Axe Location (The King's Crypt)

Published 2026-09-173 min read

The Veteran's Battle Axe is Mortal Shell II's early heavy-hitter, found on a corpse at the bottom of The King's Crypt dungeon. Route, the elite guarding it, and how to swing a weapon this slow without dying.

The Veteran's Battle Axe is for players who like their numbers big and their commitments bigger. Found on a headless corpse at the very bottom of The King's Crypt, it hits like a siege engine — and swings like one too.

The Veteran's Battle Axe in Mortal Shell II
Slow, enormous, and devastating when the timing lands.

Where to find it

  1. Travel to the Shattered Beacon and head north-west.
  2. Enter the cave that leads into The King's Crypt dungeon.
  3. Follow the main path until you reach a long, deep drop shaft — jump down.
  4. The axe lies on a headless corpse at the bottom. An elite bandit stands right beside it, so clear the space before you loot.

What it plays like

  • Huge per-hit damage. Few weapons in Mortal Shell II hit harder per swing, and posture damage is similarly monstrous.
  • Slow on both ends. Wind-ups and recoveries are long, attack frequency is low, and you cannot string quick hits together — plan each swing like a statement.
  • Stamina-hungry. Chained slashes drain the bar fast; emptying yourself mid-swing is an invitation to be punished. Swing, recover, repeat.

Pair it with hardening to tank through your own recovery frames, or run it on a tanky Shell where one heavy read per exchange is enough to control the fight.
