Mortal Shell II — Widow's Overlook Area Beacons & Map Fragment Route

Published 2026-09-174 min read

The Widow's Overlook beacon opens the Fainweald overworld in Mortal Shell II. This route covers cleansing it, collecting Fainweald Map Fragment 4, and pushing on through Mushroom Village to the Mushroom Village Gate beacon.

The Widow's Overlook Beacon is where most players truly begin Mortal Shell II — the first overworld checkpoint in Fainweald and the anchor for a whole chain of cleansed Beacons across the region. This route strings it together with the first Map Fragment and the road to the Mushroom Village Gate.

One Beacon to cleanse, one fragment to grab, one gate to open.

Before you start

Fainweald holds three corrupted Fall Gates, each hiding a self-contained area with no map of its own — and the final road (the endgame region) is likewise unmapped. The five Fainweald Map Fragments fix part of that, and this route scoops the first of them. If you skipped the prologue, go back and cleanse its Beacon too: it cannot be revisited later.

The route: Widow's Overlook → Fragment 4 → Mushroom Village Gate

  1. Start at the Widow's Overlook Beacon and follow the video-route line out of the spawn area.
  2. At the marked spot, collect Fainweald Map Fragment 4. It sits right along the natural walking line — impossible to miss once you know it exists.
  3. Continue forward into Mushroom Village and cleanse the Mushroom Village Beacon.
  4. Open your map and confirm the Mushroom Village Gate Beacon's position, then run the road toward it.
  5. Cleanse the Mushroom Village Gate Beacon.

Why this chain matters

Each cleansed Beacon is a respawn point, a flask refill and a fast-travel node — and the Gate beacons are the doorways to the corrupted Fall Gates where the region's bosses wait. Starting from the Overlook means every death in the village or the gate beyond is a short jog rather than a cross-region hike.

Next stops on the Fainweald sweep: Blackridge Pass to the north, and the village gate's road into the Glutted Mire.
