Mortal Shell II — How to Get Genessa, the Wayward (Sester's Censer Quest)
Published 2026-09-174 min read
Genessa, the Wayward is Mortal Shell II's quest-gated Shell: retrieve the Sester's Censer near the monastery, survive its guardian boss, and carry it back to Marrow Keep. Full route, fight tips and the Devout Aftershock ability explained.
Genessa, the Wayward — the nun's Shell — is the only body in Mortal Shell II you cannot simply pick up or kill your way to. It is a quest unlock, and the quest item in question is the Sester's Censer: a red censer guarded by a boss near the monastery in the Ruins of Mammon.

Step 1: reach the censer
- Fast travel to the monastery entrance Beacon in the Ruins of Mammon and follow our Sester's Refuge beacon route inward.
- At the marked statue, find the red censer and interact with it to trigger the boss fight.
Step 2: win the guardian fight
The censer is not unguarded — defeating the boss bound to it is what frees the item. Keep your composure through its phases, use the arena to reset when pressured, and remember that a cleansed Beacon at the monastery entrance keeps every attempt short.
Step 3: carry it home
- Pick up the Sester's Censer the boss drops.
- Return to Marrow Keep and hand the censer to the nun herself. A dialogue scene follows — and when it ends, Genessa, the Wayward joins your roster.
What the Shell does
Genessa arrives with the Devout Aftershock ability: summon a duplicate that lands a single weapon attack before vanishing. Used mid-combination, it doubles your pressure at the exact moment enemies expect a breather — a natural fit for aggressive, tempo-heavy play, and a fine partner for fast weapons like the Axe and Dagger.
